Celebrating Columbia’s 50th on Rosinante Run

The neighbors on Rosinante Run, Columbia, Maryland gathered to beautify their street as their part of giving to Columbia’s 50th Anniversary. The idea was generated through CA’s gift of daffodils for planting throughout the community. Wilda Newman obtained 250 bulbs from CA. One hundred Dutch Master bulbs (which are larger and bloom longer) were planted around the cul-de-sac’s sycamore tree, and 150 more bulbs (February Gold, which are shorter and bloom earlier) were planted around the outside ring of the circle. Their work in the fall brought forth beautiful results in the spring, despite the heavy, late snow. See video of the...

Jonathan Edelson, OMCA Board Chair, To Present Testimony, CA FY 19/FY20 Budget Requests Submitted by the Oakland Mills Board of Directors

September 14, 2017 CA FY 19/FY20 Budget Requests Submitted by the Oakland Mills Board of Directors Good evening, I’m Jonathan Edelson the Chairman of the Oakland Mills Board of Directors. Thank you for the opportunity to present Oakland Mills FY 19 and FY 20 budget requests. The following requests were discussed and approved by the Oakland Mills Board of Directors at the August 22, 2017 board meeting. We ask your consideration of each request and thank you in advance for your time and deliberation during the budget process. Items under each category are listed in priority order. THE OTHER BARN 1) Second Level Restroom The Oakland Mills Board of Directors continues to have serious concerns about the lack of a second floor restroom. The lack of a restroom on the second floor is an ADA issue. Guests who require use of the handicap lift must wait for an escort to take them downstairs on the lift to use the restroom. Imagine the humiliation that this causes. The lack of a second floor restroom adversely impacts our guests as well as our ability to rent the Loft. It is our understanding that CA will address the feasibility of a second floor restroom when the new handicap lift is installed. We recommend that this be a priority as soon as the new lift is installed in January, 2018. 2) Replacement Floor Covering in the Loft Despite the fact that the carpet in The Loft was installed two years ago, it is in terrible condition from the extremely high volume of guests that use The Loft each weekend. We have had the...

Pedestrian and Bike Bridge Closure

UPDATE TO BRIDGE CLOSURE: Visit the Baltimore Sun’s article on the bridge closure for updated information. US 29 Bridge Closure Updates, New Bridge Construction To Begin The First Week In September, 2017   The project to renovate and improve the bicycle and pedestrian bridge over US 29 is quickly approaching! Howard County expects to close the bridge during the first week of September, and construction will start immediately afterwards. The improvement project will replace the current “cage” with a spiraling geodesic tube, upgrade the lighting on the bridge, and install fiber to provide police with clearer images from the security cameras on the bridge. Unfortunately, the project will require the bridge to be closed for approximately three months. If your essential travel will be disrupted by the bridge closure, please contact the Office of Transportation at (410) 313-4312 or by emailing transportation@howardcountymd.gov. Howard County will offer free bus passes valid for travel between Oakland Mills and Downtown Columbia while the bridge is closed.  If you commute across the bridge when the bus does not run, please call the Office of Transportation at (410) 313-4312 to learn about available assistance. Please encourage family, friends, neighbors, and others who may be affected by the bridge closure to visit  www.howardcountymd.gov/US29Bridge to learn about the project, or contact the Office of Transportation if their essential travel will be disrupted by the bridge closure. Attached below are schedules for the RTA 407/Brown and 408/Gold bus routes, which provide service between Oakland Mills and Downtown Columbia. These schedules are subject to change. Any new schedules will be sent as soon as they are available. Also attached...
