NEW Rain Barrel Guideline for public review:
Rain Barrels
An application is required when placing rain barrels on your property. Applications being submitted to the committee should contain the following information:
1. Size/dimensions: Applicants should include the height, diameter and capacity of barrel(s).
2. Style, color and material of barrel and supporting structures, in the form of a picture, drawing or brochure. Applicants should choose a color/style of rain barrel that suits the style of the residence, and/or provide adequate screening plan. If pavers or a concrete pad will be used to keep the barrel(s) level, please include sample of pavers and the dimensions of pad.
3. Location: describe and show on property plat
4. Number of rain barrels: The number of rain barrels should not exceed the number of downspouts.
Rain barrels should be maintained at all times, and should be kept free of standing water on and around anything not used as part of the rain barrel system. Assure that drainage/overflow/runoff is properly diverted and does not flow onto neighboring properties. To be sure that the rain barrel does not pose a safety hazard, place on a level surface and be certain that it is secured so that it cannot be toppled. Consider winter time storage of rain barrels to prolong the life of the barrel and avoid maintenance issues that may occur during the off season.
